Very Supernatural

Writing on the Wall

Hi you,

Riding home from Cafe N on my bike, I was overcome by the strangest sense of the supernatural. It’s been a beautiful night, with many people out on the streets, but it seemed hushed, like everyone was speaking under their breath. I waved goodbye to my coworker, Marie, and when I pedaled around the corner I was alone. I sensed movement in my peripheral vision and looked up to see a single playing card falling from the sky. I was peddling steadily and couldn’t be sure, but when I turned my neck I thought I saw a King lying on the pavement.

A photo I took when my mom and I were being pedestrians.

How very strange, I thought. I looked up ahead to the approaching residential building, where a black sheet billowed in the wind. Suddenly, the proximity of the graveyard through which I often ride became very palpable. Instead of cutting through it I turned onto Nørrebrogade, as I always do after dark.

The neon lights above each storefront were sheathed in a thin fog, and I fully expected each one to flicker like a vacancy sign outside an isolated motel. To the right of the sidewalk, I saw a man touching the glass windows of an antique lamp store.

I reached my street, locked up my bike and climbed the stairs to my apartment. But here be no ghosts, ghouls or goblins. Just my wonderful roommate Julia, a broken dishwasher, an oversized clump of hair in our shower drain and scavenged leftovers in the fridge. Now, I’m just wasting time because my freshly washed sheets are still damp and I can’t get properly snuggly in those circumstances.

Less weird rambling tales, more fun exciting facts to come…!

XO, Carly

Ps: I am still without a cell phone. Sorry World!

Pps: I swear I just heard a cat meow, twice. A black cat, I’d say, judging by the amplitude.
