The Internet Of Things

My alarm rings at 7 am and I wake up. I have to take a shower, and my bathtub is already prepared for me, with the right quantity and temperature of water. The coffee machine starts to brew coffee, and the moment I am ready, my car’s engine starts, turning the air-conditioning on for me as it is above 30 degrees outside. But how do these devices know how and when to perform the prescribed tasks for me? Who tells them I want coffee in the morning or I need some air-conditioning as the temperature is high outside?

This whole scenario revolves around the concept of Internet of Things.

Internet of Things is the most debatable topic of the modern era. Assigned to the concept of any device that has a power button; IoT comprises of smart objects and appliances connected with each other, which use the pre-fed information to carry out the tasks assigned to them, while you are away or occupied with something else. A very popular example of IoT is Tesla, an American multinational corporation that specializes in electric cars and appliances, powered by solar energy, having expertise in smart ways of energy consumption and storage. The versatility of tasks carried out by its products and the entire concept of smart living gives it an edge over everything else. Tesla shows us how a simple vehicle can be powered by solar cells, keeping not only the energy reusable, but also impacting the environment tremendously by negligible amount of air pollution. You have the control in your hands and by connecting it with your smartphone, you can not only maneuver the car the way you want to, but also set the inner thermostat of the car. You can even synchronize your car with your home and turn the lights on and set the temperature of your living room before you arrive!

Tesla has really strengthened it’s stemming roots in the field of architecture as well, where user experience and functionality go hand in hand, paving its way towards a better connected and more experiential future. Another tremendously creative yet extremely useful invention in the field of architecture is the Powerwall. It is placed outside the house and looks like a normal wall or a design feature, but it stores the solar energy and uses that energy to produce the electricity for the entire house. Same goes for the solar powered roofs, with different designs and finishes, powered by the sun.

Tesla cars and smart houses have the same properties that vault into the niche of Internet of Things.

Internet of Things has revolutionised our lifestyles and thought processes, by connecting us with smart devices which carry out the tasks for us. It has paved a way for a future where our living room adjusts the thermostat itself, before we even arrive home, and the lights are dimmed eloquently when the movie starts on our smart tv, while we watch it with our family and enjoy.
