Introduction
Jira is project management,issue-tracking, and bug tracking tool for agile software and business teams.it is made by Atlassian.
Why JIRA?
There is a lot of software that exists in the market which is very similar to Jira. Now a question arises that why we should use Jira. The reason behind it is, we can do everything that we need to manage projects and teams, it has so many add-ons to enhance the functionality.
What is Agile?
As I mentioned ‘agile’ in the earlier section of this blog now you can ask what agile is. In the following video, ‘agile’ is described clearly.
For teams who practice agile methodologies, Jira Software provides Scrum and kanban board out-of-the-box. Boards are task management hubs, where tasks are mapped to customizable workflows. Boards provide transparency across teamwork and visibility.
Kanban teams work on bugs and issues which need to deliver on as quickly as possible. This approach consists of the following four principles:
For instance, after delivering the software if there exist bugs then the users report bugs as feedback. Then the teams resolved that bugs. There is no timeframe to finish the tasks.
Scrum teams work on new features or products with tight schedules. Scrum teams break their work into a time box/batch called sprints. Scrum teams don’t have any leader. It's a teamwork-based approach where communication is very essential in this approach. It consists of events like Daily Scrum, Sprint planning meeting, Sprint retrospective.
How to create a Scrum/Kanban Project?
Step 2: Select your project preference
Go to Select classic->Software->Scrum/Kanban->select
Step 3: Give a name of your project and key. Here Project Key becomes the prefix for tasks created within that Project.
For Example: I have a Project, ‘JIRA project’, with a Project Key of ‘JIRAPRO’. Each task created in the JIRA Support Project begins with the Project Key, so ‘JIRAPRO-1’ is the task number.
Step 4: Add your teammate by selecting people.
Step 5: Create an issue under our project. Initially, there is no issue.
Issue types are Task/Story/Bugs/Epic.
Story: It is defined by the product manager. And it is understandable to the Product owner and business user. It fitted into a sprint.
Task: The Development team can further divide the story into preferable tasks. It is no longer understandable to the user and owner. It is highly technical which focus the need of user and owner. It helps teams to do understand the problem and solve faster.
Bugs: It defines the new work discovered during solving a task.
Epic: Epic is like a super story that can long a few sprints. Maybe a user usable release.
Summary: It is the name of the story/epic/bugs/task.
Label and Components of an Issue
The issue can be label so that team can easily filter issues.Components are the technical categorization of the issue. For example Deep learning, Machine learning issues, web issues, etc.
Assignee, Reporter & Priority
You can set assignee, reporter, and priority(High, Highest, Low, Lowest, Medium)
Backlog
When an issue is created then it may not have any sprint specify. That’s why stored in the backlog.
Step 5: Create a sprint and drag&drop the issue from the backlog and set the duration of this sprint. Finally mark sprint as active.
After doing that your active sprint should look like this
In ‘Active Sprint’ we can see the issues ‘TO DO’. When working with an issue we move the issue to ‘IN PROGRESS’. And after completing the issue it should be moved to ‘Done’. We can add extra columns in the active sprint arena. For example: ‘Verify’. It used to verify the issue whether it is acceptable or not.
Confluence
Confluence is Atlassian’s content collaboration tool used to help teams collaborate and share knowledge efficiently. In Confluence, content is created and organized using spaces, pages, and blogs.
Just click on space to create a space. For example EduHubICT
Conclusion
This is how we can create and manipulate a project using jira software applying the agile methodology. I hope you enjoy it….
