Nerds Are A Need

Back in the old times, the hierarchy in the educational system was abundant. Wealth was a great factor then and the nobles were prioritized more. With many societal changes in the course of time, common people getting education became normal. Though the literacy rate was not that great, scholars were well respected and appreciated.

In the enlightenment period so much happened in the field of educational discovery and the road to the modern world was founded, the age of great change and new ideas. Social conciousness caused riot in middle class, surged revolution after revolution and the concept of “Education for all” became normalized. Now after centuries, education became a human right. We have come a long way.

Now, once egotistical term “Educated" became “Nerd” in the span of some decades. You read too much, you’re a nerd. You know too much, you’re a nerd. You debate too much, you’re a nerd. You inform too much, you’re a nerd. Since, you’re a nerd, you’re a dictionary. And it’s a negative connotation. It is a concept now that being a nerd is not cool. It’s unfashionable, dorky and esoteric.

This culture is very much noticeable in schools, universities and yes, in workspaces too. Can we add family in the list? Umm, yes. Sometimes it rise to extreme limit as though it’s a crime to get out and share your knowledge because you get bullied for it. Some people don’t prefer to socialize with nerds. Sometimes even being geeky is considered “Nerdy” too. Knowing many things is not a bad thing. It gives you proper insights and helps you having better perspective of many areas and shapes your principles and philosophies. It makes your Boss or Teacher value your point of view. You become significant in people’s eyes. But some people don’t appreciate it. And the result comes through their insolence towards those “Nerds”. Many cases of depression, psycological issues, phobias, it goes as far as being suicidal, stems from subjugation. Getting killed or murdered is a common occurrence too.

We learn many things from movies and vertual programs. There are many “Nerdy” movies too which teaches us how to value education and the importance it carries. But, are not they very much underrated? Unless they’re romanticized.

Picasso, an artistic genius; Da Vinci, a chronic procrastinator ; Geothe, founder of Human Chemistry; Einstein, introduced the mass- energy equivalence formula; Newton, he wrote “Pholisophiae Naturalis”, “Principia Mathematica”, which are the most influential in the field of science till date; Curie, Developer of X-ray machine, Voltaire, Maxwell and many more, they’re not called nerd but smartest people of the world. They, with their innovative mind invented or discovered many things that has been helping the world to shape into something we call ‘harmony’ and their knowledge made the world get knowledgeable more and more each day.

From upgraded cars to eco friendly vehicles, from medical surgeries to organ plantation, from nuclear operations to Mars operations, from meteorological studies to space study all is possible because of nerds.

If we’re gonna live in a “Super Earth”, we need nerds there for sustainability.

You know those futuristic authors like Isaac Asimov, Arthur Clarke, Manjula Padmanabhan, Octavia Butler etc. This modern world is slowly catching upto those “Nerds”, because they left hints for “Nerds” to make them reality.

We sure are living in an Utopian society. Cause it appears like the nerds are doing their best to gift us a happy, healthy life and we’re not appreciating them with flowers and chocolates but pain and sufferings by snashing them, being impudence and with insubordination, for what? Sadisticpleasure maybe. The least we normal people can do is, appreciate them, learn from them, support them and promote them, to help them make a better world for us to live in.

I mean, is not bitterness very unpleasant to live with and awful to tastebuds? And trust your doctor, it’s not healthy at all.
